Sefton Library Services
Borrowing Books
It is absolutely free to join any one of our thirteen libraries in Sefton. All we need is your name and address and you can start checking out books, DVDs or CDs immediately. Children have the joy of choosing one of many different library card designs. Books can be borrowed for 28 days; multimedia items (music CDs and DVDs) can be borrowed for seven days. Please show your library card at the counter each time you borrow from the library.
Using your library card, you may borrow from any Sefton library. You may also return your loans to any library in Sefton.
Renewing items on loan
If you'd like to keep an item longer than the initial loan period, renewals are made easy, which will prevent overdue charges from building up. All items borrowed from the library can be renewed, except when another customer has reserved them. Items can be renewed the following ways:
- In person - just visit any Sefton library
- By phone - contact any Sefton library, a member of staff will be able to renew your items
- Online - using the online library catalogue
If items are overdue when you contact us, charges will be placed on your account; you can settle the account when you next visit any Sefton library.
Reserving books and other items
You can reserve a multimedia item (music CD and DVD) for a small hire charge. It may be in our own stock in Sefton; if we don't have it in stock we may buy a new copy or make every effort to borrow it from another library service. Items borrowed from other library authorities will incur an additional charge, payable when the item is collected. We will let you know when the item is ready to collect.
Staff in your local library will be pleased to assist you if you have any queries about reservations. If you want to reserve an item online use our online library catalogue.
