As the football season starts to kick off, Sefton’s Ability Counts football team have already begun the league as Champions.
Crowned champions for 2011, the disabled footballers achieved their winning title after competing the in Merseyside based disabled football league. With strong competition from Everton and Liverpool Football clubs, the team took embraced their opportunity to lead the way and show the other teams how it’s done.
Playing in their new matching football kits, funded through the Aiming High For Disabled Children project, the team worked together to compete at the highest standard, efforts which did not go unnoticed by Darren Carr, Development Officer for the Positive Futures team,
“The boys have competed at the highest level and have done incredibly well. They have put the effort in all year round to train work hard and their commitment pays off, well done to the team.”
Originally started as a result of sessions at Chesterfield High School, the sessions now get a regular attendance of around 15-20 young people with this now being the second time that the team have beaten competition from premier league football clubs Everton and Liverpool.
