Climbing High
Proving that there certainly isn’t a mountain high enough to stop them reaching their goals, year nine pupils in Maghull have been climbing high to achieve their goals this month.
Working in partnership with the Positive Futures team the teenagers enjoyed three weeks of tutoring on the programme learning both essential climbing skills including health and safety, dress and behaviour, climbing with confidence and basic moving when in the climbing environment aswell as communication, confidence and team working skills.
Awarded by the British Mountaineering Council in partnership with the British Climbing Wall Association the climbing programme, young people successfully achieved their National Indoor Climbing Award Level 1 with many now progressing to attend the climbing clubs.
Commenting on the success of the programme James Mealing, Development Officer for Positive Futures noted how the programme highlighted the different skills which participants demonstrated and how they aren’t always highlighted within the classroom,
“This is a fantastic awards programme that allows candidates to progress from beginner to experienced climber. Aswell as the benefits of achieving a recognised qualification, our participants also develop important life skills which may sometimes not be learnt within an educational classroom environment but which can be experienced on the wall.”
