Lord Mayor puts a coin in the old mans hat
Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat but the residents of Sefton have been busy putting pounds in the old mans hat.
In partnership with the Lord Mayors Charity, Sefton Leisure Services ran a festive promotion to encourage residents to get fit for Christmas and join the gym for £1.00, which would then be donated to the Mayor of Sefton’s Charity Fund.
Working together, Active Sefton leisure centres across the borough agreed to waiver their administration fee on leisure centre memberships and instead charge a £1.00 joining fee which was directly donated to the Lord Mayors Charity Fund successfully raising £219.00.
Presenting the cheque to the Lord Mayor Councillor Alf Doran and Mayoress Gill Cuthbertson at the new Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre, Alistair Robertson, Head of Sport & Recreation in Sefton Leisure Services commented on the achievements of Sefton residents,
“It is a great sum of money to have raised for the Lord Mayor’s Charity and we are incredibly pleased to be involved in such a deserving cause. We seek to offer our leisure centre members a full range of services to help our members keep fit and lead a healthy lifestyle. By donating the administration fee to the Mayors Charity our residents are also helping with local deserving causes aswell so it was a great incentive to get healthy for Christmas!”
The Mayor of Sefton’s Charity fund is a Trust originally set up to assist the people of Sefton and to help with smaller charitable and voluntary groups who may not have a national profile finding fund raising difficult. In previous years charities helped include people with disabilities, underprivileged children, special interest groups and animal welfare to name a few with all funds being spend locally in Sefton.
Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre is now open to all Sefton residents with a 25% discount available to all founder members.
