It just keeps running…

Proving they are not just gifted but also talented, youngsters from across Sefton have been hitting the tracks over the winter months.

During the October half term the Sefton Athletics Academy ran two gifted and talented camps at Litherland Sports Park continuing their successful run of camps after the pilot project in the summer. The exclusive camp was by invitation only with twenty-eight primary and fifteen secondary school aged students invited to attend as a result of previous performances or teacher recommendation.

Providing an opportunity to enhance athletic ability the camps provided the athletes with high quality coaching from qualified and experienced coaches from Sefton Leisure Services, Southport Waterloo Athletics Club and top athletes in their field.

Commenting on the programme of activities, Mike Wardle, Athletics Development Manager at Litherland Sports Park recognised the achievements of the athletes taking part and believes that the programmes popularity can only lead to success in the future,

“After the previous levels of success we have witnessed on the camps this programme is a new direction for us in seeking to expand participation in athletics within Sefton. For the Gifted & Talented camp we were lucky enough to have an international Israeli athlete who took coaching sessions including pole-vaulting which was a new opportunity for the students and proved incredibly popular.”

The Gifted & Talented programme will be running during every school holiday alongside athletics community camps which are open to all audiences to attend.
