Arranged through the Sefton Positive Futures team, Merefield School were able to utilise the funding to run a three-week summer holiday programme for their pupils with the most profound and complex disabilities.
Pupils accessed a range of water sports activities including power boating and dinghies.
Jumpers for Goalposts
As the football season starts to kick off, Sefton’s Ability Counts football team have already begun the league as Champions.
Crowned champions for 2011, the disabled footballers achieved their winning title after competing the in Merseyside based disabled football league. With strong competition from Everton and Liverpool Football clubs, the team took embraced their opportunity to lead the way and show the other teams how it’s done.
60 Years in Netherton
To mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June next year, the Feelgood Factory (Netherton) is organising its own special event - 60 Years in Netherton.
This is to celebrate the achievements and lives of local people since the Queen was crowned in June 1952 and the centre is encouraging the community to come forward to share their stories.
Visitor Award for Crosby Lakeside
Providing Sefton’s first residential facility for disabled children and young people, the Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre has been celebrating another first with their recent accreditation as a Quality Assured Place of Interest.
Assessed for the award through an external assessment by VisitEngland, the centre underwent mystery visits before receiving glowing feedback on the sites presentation, customer care and the range of services which are offered to visitors. Open for less than twelve months the centre is making waves with National Governing Bodies which recognise the centres facilties for children and young people in Sefton now having achieved “On Board” accreditation which recognises the delivery of sailing activities for young people and RYA Foundation status for the range of activities provided for disabled children, young people and adults.
Active Choices Replaces Leisure Passport
Active Choices is a new scheme introduced by Active Sefton to offer everyone the opportunity to make savings whilst using leisure services across Sefton.
The Leisure Passport Scheme will cease to exist from March 31st 2011 and will be replaced by the new Active Choices Card.
