Litherland Sports Park

Litherland Sports ParkLitherland Sports Park opened its doors to the public in June 2006. Since then the Centre has become a focal point for the community. It has become home to a number of football teams, the Mercury Cycling Club, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation NHS Service, and over 500 regular 'Active Sefton' Fitness Suite members.

LSP is one of the first and most innovative schemes in the country, to house cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation NHS services relocated from Aintree Hospital linked to a continuum of health and wellbeing via physical activity. It is also home for more than 25 sports clubs and venue for over 30 schools, and a real driver behind economic and social regeneration.

LSP has also seen fantastic results in the uptake of a number of targeted programmes. With over 40 children registering on MEND, over 15 families taking part in the Active Families programme and a further 100 people benefiting from the Active Sefton Referral Scheme. The long awaited athletics track has also proved to be extremely popular and has seen over 130 juniors and almost 50 adults become a member of the facility at Litherland Sports Park.

The community of South Sefton has benefited by the;

  • Regeneration of derelict playing fields;
  • Provision of jobs and training;
  • Improvement in basic health;
  • Improvement in educational attainment;
  • Reduction in anti social behaviour and fear of crime;
  • Engagement young people at risk of offending;
  • Creation of new clubs and activity programmes;
  • Improvement in community capacity building.

The facilities include a 400m, six lane athletics track with a centre arena, 10 grass pitches, 3 5-a-side floodlit synthetic turf pitches suitable for football or hockey and team changing/shower rooms.

The pavilion includes a state of the art  'Active Sefton' fitness suite. All 40 pieces of equipment have been fitted with the latest fitlinx system enabling the user to access their personal training programme from the piece of equipment they are using. All fitness equipment is also fitted with an interactive TV monitor.
