Positive Futures
What is it?
Positive Futures is a national social inclusion programme for children and young people.
What does that mean?
In Sefton it means giving children and young people, who often miss out on stuff, the opportunity to get involved in sport and other leisure stuff like going to the youth centre, swimming or rock climbing.
Why?
The government asked loads of children and young people all over the country what they wanted and the answer was "more things to do and more places to go"
What are the benefits (what do I get out of it)?
- Meet new people and build relationships and friendships
- Try new sports and activities
- Get healthy
- Become more confident
- Get skills that will help you go to college or get a job
What type of things do you do?
Positive Choices
To provide a programme of alternative curriculum based sport & recreational opportunities. The programmes cover self-esteem, confidence, behaviour and a variety of issue based work.
Active Lifestyles
Positive Futures, ‘Active Lifestyles’ programme is designed to use motivational mentors, sport and exercise to create positive opportunities for young people.
Active Outdoors
The project is designed to cater for young people who are interested in outdoor and leisure pursuits.
Positive Inclusion
This project focuses on the development of mainstream sport and leisure opportunities for children with disabilities. There are currently a number of Inclusive settings in a number of leisure centres and youth centres across Sefton.
Who is it for?
We aim to work with children and young people who are more likely to be excluded (left out) from these types of activities:
- Looked After Children
- Children with Disabilities
- Children and young people who, for different reasons, have poor attendance and behaviour in school
